Empties #2

Empties #2 | Maddie's Beauty Spot

Welcome to my latest round up of empties/expired products! In the last month I’ve undertaken a clean out of my beauty stash – to get rid of old products/empty products. Here are my mini reviews:

Sephora Pomegranate Eye Mask: I picked this up in Singapore in January, and finally got around to using it. It has a lovely cooling feeling but doesn’t really do much – unsurprisingly. It was only a few dollars and was definitely interesting to try! I actually much prefered it than sheet masks, as sheet masks are made for one face shape – and it ain’t mine!
Wouldn’t repurchase.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion: I picked this up last year from Mecca, it’s such a cute little size! I recently featured this moisturiser in my Autumn skincare routine and I’ve been using it continuously January. Since it is just a mini, I’m already on the last drop!
Not going to repurchase straight away, since I prefer the Philosophy ‘Hope in a jar” moisturiser. This one is a great summer one though so I might get back to it then.

Rexona Deodorant: I have used this deodorant for the last few years pretty religiously, however since this finished I have been using a Dove roll on I purchased for travelling last year. The Rexona deodorant is quite expensive at $7 or so, so I’m using up my roll on first.
Repurchase definitely.

St Ives Apricot Scrub: I used to use this scrub a few years ago but it’s too harsh for my skin and most likely off now so it’s going in the bin! It has a creamy consistency and microbeads to exfoliate. It’s a great scrub for oily skin.
Wouldn’t repurchase.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner: I used to use this toner a few years ago as well, when I used to have very acne prone skin. I haven’t used this in quite awhile, hence the white powder stuck to the bottom. You shake this toner and it mixes the tea tree and white powder ready to apply via cotton pad.
Wouldn’t repurchase.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Lotion: This is a spot treatment for acne, but like the toner, I haven’t used this in so long I highly doubt it’s still within its used by date. It works really well for drying spots out and I recommend it for anyone with acne!
Wouldn’t repurchase.

MAC Fix+ Spray: I bought a mini of this last year to see how it stands and to compare it to the Australis Finishing Spray which you can read here. It’s down to the last few drops right now but I can’t get them out without huge squirts. Seeing as this spray bottle is $15 and only 30ml, and the Australis spray is the same for about 100ml, I think the Australis is a better purchase as they are almost the same to me. Is it twice as good as the Australis to make up for being twice the price? No.
Wouldn’t repurchase.

Estee Lauder Double Wear in Desert Beige: Love this foundation! I don’t think I can rave about it anymore, however, since I purchased this a full year ago, the shade isn’t perfect for me anymore. I do wear the Light version of Double Wear in 1.0 Intensity since I purchased it at Christmas and it’s perfect for me, so I just need to find the perfect match again. Last year this foundation made my skin extra dry, which is what led me to the Nars Sheer Glow foundation so I likely won’t be repurchasing until Winter is over just in case!
Definite repurchase.

  • I’ve heard good things about the body shop tea tree range, I should try it

I’m surprised to hear you wouldn’t repurchase Mac Fix + Spray. So many people rave that it’s better than everything, although I’ve always been unconvinced (and unwilling to spend that much money on trying it haha) so kind of nice to hear an honest review!! I have the Australis one so I’ll stick with that 😉

    • I’m definitely glad I bought the mini size! I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it was a little bit of a let down. A real setting spray is one by Urban Decay or Skindinavia, not these anyway.

  • I used to love Estee Lauder DW and I have the same shade as you! I find it way too drying these days and prefer the Too Faced Born This Way. I’ll have to try the light version of DW, it sounds really nice!

    • I recently got colour matched to the regular one, in Cool Bone! It’s the lightest shade they offer so I really feel for pale princesses, because I’m just a bit fair!

I don’t feel like Born This Way will be in my shade, they all seem yellow to me!
