What Foundation Shades Am I?

What Foundation Shade Am I? I have normally had a small collection of two to four foundation shades at a time, but lately I have been passionately buying foundations, particularly now that I am cruelty free as my two favourites: Estee Lauder Double Wear and Nars Sheer Glow are tested on animals in China. I thought I would do a quick little swatch post as I find these so helpful when trying to match myself over the internet (lets be real though… more often than not, I am the lightest shade!).

Not Cruelty-Free:

Estée Lauder double wear regular 1C1 Cool Bone: 8/10 match for me. The lightest neutral shade is not sold in Australia.

Estée Lauder double wear light in 1.0: 8/10 match for me. Again, limited shade range in Australia with no 0.5 shade here.

Nars Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc Light 2: 9/10 match for me. I am fair af and this shade matches really well. It is pink toned instead of neutral as the lightest neutral is Deauville, but still workable.

Nars Sheer Glow in Deauville Light 4: 7/10 match for me as it’s the perfect neutral balance, but of course, slightly too dark.

Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick in Porcelain: 8/10 match for me. A little light for me.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla: 10/10 match for me. Very disappointed I can’t repurchase this one again, this is probably my third tube as is! A similar colour and consistency match is Tarte’s Shape Tape in Light.

Estee Lauder Stay-in-Place High Cover Concealer SPF 30+ in 1C Light (Cool): 7/10 match for me. As you can see this shade is very dark and it’s also the lightest shade available. “Very Light” is unavailable in Australia. I’m trying to pan this currently.

Too Faced Born This Way in Snow: 9/10 pretty good match for me. This used to be the lightest shade but now I think there are one or two lighter, and I could possibly go a shade lighter as this oxidises lately.

Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able in Ivory 14: 6/10 match for me. Quite dark, but the shade “12” is yellow based, and the shade “10” is actually way too light, whereas “14” is supposed to be more pink toned/neutral. I will likely get more use from this in Summer. I have also picked up the Body Shop’s lightening drops so I will be interested to see how they go.

Smashbox Studio Skin in 1.2: 9/10 match for me. Really like this new sample, it seems a great dupe for Double Wear in the cruelty free arena.

Stila Stay All Day in Bare 1: 9/10 match for me. Again, another really good matte cruelty free option I have been loving.

Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea in Fair Neutral: 10/10 match for me. Great tones for me, and funnily enough, is not the same shade as the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation in Fairly Light Neutral.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation in Fairly Light Neutral: 6/10 match for me. Very dark for my skin, I’ll be selling this. Everything in this range is very dark I feel.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation in Fair Beige: 10/10 match for me. This is a much better shade for me than Fairly Light Neutral.

Hourglass Vanish Stick Foundation in Alabaster: 10/10 match for me. Great neutral match for me.

It Cosmetics CC Cream in Fair: 8/10 match for me. There are not tones per say in this foundation. Only fair, light, and some darker shades. I have heard we are getting a bigger range in shades shortly however!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Fair Neutral: 7/10 match for me. Unfortunately it’s a bit too light for me, but I have previously owned Light Warm (the next shade up) and it was too dark. I can make Fair Neutral work a bit better.

Tarte Shape Tape in Light: 10/10 match for me. I struggled finding a shade online for Shape Tape, but once I saw Karima McKimmie’s video on shape tape shades in comparison to the Nars pot concealer. I noticed Vanilla in Nars (the pot and tube are the same shades) was the same as Light in Shape Tape so I purchased it. I toyed with Fair and the other shades similar but for once I am not the lightest!

  • Foundations is definitely something I’m lacking so this post is sooo helpful! It’s a shame about the NARS foundations too! They’ve really taken a step back by no longer being cruelty free

  • ooh such a good post for me – seems like we’re fairly similar in shades! It’s so difficult finding the perfect pale foundation match!

  • What a great post! I spot a few faves especially the Estee Lauder Double Wear but it is great seeing the swatches and consistency of the formulas next to each other. This is definitely going to help me when i want to buy my next foundation online! x

  • This is an amazing post, I agree with you, these kind of swatches and post are so helpful for me too when I am matching myself online. I am glad Marc Jacobs and IT Cosmetics are cruelty free as I am loving them both these days.

  • My foundation collection looks like yours. The shades vary drastically and personally I find I need to mix two to get the perfect shade. If you’re after a new CF foundation, which I’m sure you’re not, you need to check out the Tarte Clay Stick foundation. Its my new love x

Great post!! I want to try some of these

I have the same issue with shade matching my fair skin. It’s rare that I find a shade that is actually neutral and not overly pink or yellow. I have the tarte amazonian clay stick foundation in Fair neutral and it matches perfectly!

This is such a good idea for a post! I love how you’ve executed it. Even though I’m neutral in skin tone, lots of foundations pull too warm or pink on me so it can be a struggle!

  • I just did a post rounding up my foundation collection too! These kinds of posts are so handy for if you’re looking for your shade in something else, and are the same shade as someone else in a particular foundation. I tried to do swatches too but mine failed because my camera couldn’t focus on all the nude on nude lmao.

Foundation is such a struggle for me!

  • Omg it drives me crazy that the lightest shades in EL Double Wear and Double Wear Light aren’t available in Australia because the next shades down are too dark for me – so rude! Although I suppose it doesn’t matter too much for you now since you’re cruelty free. It’s so funny to think how different foundation and concealer shades can be, but that so many of them still work for us, but I think unless you’re wearing something super full coverage then you can get away with a bit more of a difference as it sheers out.
